01 / THE IDEA
It starts with what
is already here.
Tasiilami Peqqinnardusorpu is a local food initiative that brings together vegetables grown in Tasiilaq, practical cooking and the community’s own food knowledge.
The aim is to make locally grown vegetables accessible, enjoyable and relevant to everyday life — adding variety alongside traditional Greenlandic foods. Local traditions, ingredients and knowledge are central to the project.
The longer-term ambition is to build interest in local growing and work towards a solution where year-round cultivation is the goal.
02 / FROM IDEA TO ACTIVITY
A shared table.
A practical beginning.
01
The Food-event
On 3 September 2026, around 70 people came and went during the Food-event at Tasiilami Alivarpi. Visitors tasted four dishes and shared their preferences, bringing the project into a familiar community setting.

02
Cooking together
Cooking workshops followed for the community and school pupils. Participants learned to make dishes from the Food-event, including carrot spread and pointed cabbage with curry — simple ways to use everyday vegetables.

03
Knowledge to take forward
A cookbook is in development, bringing recipes together with local food knowledge. Interviews with residents explore traditional preservation and storage, including drying and fermentation, and memories of using greens.
The cookbook is planned as a free resource in East Greenlandic, Danish and English.
